MOKABLU

Was born in Brooklyn New York to drug addicted parents. At the age of three she and her siblings were placed into the foster care system and eventually separated. The verbal and physical abuse she endured in her foster homes forced her to run away. She was then placed in a group home where her independence began. Mokablu was viscously attacked outside of the homeless shelter where she was living, receiving over three hundred stitches to her face. Feeling lost, neglected and unloved she accepted her unstable living and used writing as a scapegoat. Though we would love to hear that her pain was channeled through lyries; that wasn't the case at first. As a way to identify with herself she would write her name hundreds of times in a composition book. This self-therapy proved to be the one thing she needed to find her identity. Soon after, her name writing turned into the words of her thoughts and her thoughts turned into the lyries of her songs. This amazingly talented Singer/Songwriter discovered her passion for music at the age of ten. Refusing to become a product of her environment she was determined to find a positive outlet. Taking a liking to music that was created before her time she was influenced by the sounds of a 1940's artist by the name of Peggy Lee and an opera legend by the name of Leontyne Price. When asked about her love for vintage music she replied "I enjoy the story telling". Through lyrics Mokablu shares her stories of love, life and struggle. She is definitely not an artist to be overlooked but recognized for her uniquely raw talent. From her touching ballads to her pop/dance/opera music Mokablu is an inspiration to all little girls around the world.
